The main roads passing through New Hempstead are New York State Route 45 and New York State Route 306, which run north-south direction of Rockland County and hosts many of the local businesses and organizations.

New Hempstead is home to the transportation office of the East Ramapo Central School District. Although Colton Elementary School and Hempstead Elementary School have an official Spring Valley address, they are actually located within New Hempstead.

New Hempstead is home to historical sites of New Hempstead Presbyterian Church and The Brick Church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
